Dhofar, the south-western governorate in Oman, is blessed by its specific and unique location: a slightly curved coastline with the Indian Ocean and a steep mountain range up to 2’000 meters high separates the region around Salalah from the desert in the north, east and west. This topography allows for monsoon between July and September. In October everything is green and water is flowing from the mountains. At Wadi Darabat this can be observed with waterfalls in stunning colors.

Let’s have a look into the weather kitchen: At the Jabal Samhan mountain road is a viewpoint at about 1’300 meters above sea level. It’s windy and the clouds are coming up from the sea. In seconds the sight might be gone but will come back equally quick. Here it is where the clouds from the Indian Ocean collide with the winds from the north. One can feel the dynamic of nature at this place.

The curved costline can be seen nicely at its west end from the steep road leading from the cliffs down to Fazayah beach. Here we are close to the border of Jemen.

And you may not be alone. This little Turtle was enjoying the rocky beach as well.
