Schist-bearing cliffs defy wind and waves

The westcoast in the south of Portugal is totally different from the southcoast: No sand- and limestone, here it is characterized by schist. The dark schist-bearing cliffs build a massive wall against the wind and waves from the Atlantic Ocean hitting the coast. The red sand builds a great contrast to the black rock like at Praia da Cordoama.

At Praia de Odeceixe one can perfeclty see the layered appearance of that type of rock.
