When crossing the road as in the picture above it dresses itself in shiny green-yellow, so drivers like me can see the slowly moving animal early enough. Once the side of the road is reached the outfit is immediately changed to a brown camouflage look. Incredible!

New Zealand’s Animals
Read more: New Zealand’s AnimalsNo this is not a Kiwi. Kiwis are active at night which makes it hard to catch them on a photo. This is a Buff Weka – also a flightless quite large bird – but active during the day :-). The species is endemic to New Zealand and the poulation vulnerable.
