It is located in the French Alps and belongs to the so called Graian Alps. The shot above (from Aiguille du Midi) and the one below show the north-west side.

It is located in the canton Graubünden and from the top 10 dominant mountains of the Alps the most eastern. It is actually the only mountain of the eastern Alps reaching 4’000 m.
